Aim of Course
To increase awareness of multi-agency communication planning arrangements and media management issues in relation to a Major Incident in Surrey.

Objectives

  • Have an awareness of the role of Surrey’s LRF.
  • Understand the impact of the Civil Contingencies Act (CCA) on communications and the roles and responsibilities of responding agencies.
  • Be aware of the importance of liaison and cooperation between all the agencies involved in responding to a major emergency when dealing with the news media.
  • Gain an understanding of the Surrey Local Resilience Forum Major Incident Communications Plan and best practice for how to communicate in a major incident.
  • Outline the type of information that is likely to be requested and what can be released.
  • Be aware of the systems that support a Major Incident in Surrey.

Target Audience
Staff responsible for internal and external communication in a Major Incident from all Surrey LRF agencies, Communications staff, Incident Commanders and Liaison Officers.

Officers working within organisations responsible for liaising with the media, their own staff, the public and those roles requiring an oversight of the LRF multi-agency requirements.

This training is delivered by Surrey's Local Resilience Forum (SLRF) and open to its members. Each Surrey Borough contributes to SLRF. Part of this contribution is delivered through supporting training for Surrey responders. In most cases there is no charge per attendee for training, although some courses, such as those requiring external trainers or venues, there can be an additional cost per delegate.

Delegates have to have completed the Surrey LRF Introduction to Civil Protection training, or as a minimum will familiarise themselves with the Introduction to Tactical Emergency Management E- Learning Module (see ‘E-Learning’ section in this Prospectus) which will be sent out with the Joining Instructions and is available on ResilienceDirect.
